Memory Manager 2.0 Software contains several advanced editing features that are not enabled by default when the product is installed. These features include light level adjustments, colour curve adjustments, despeckling, clone brush, blur brush, brighten brush and darken brush. To enable advanced features, perform the following steps:
1. From the toolbar, select Help.
2. In the resulting menu, choose User Settings. The User Settings dialog box appears.
3. In the General portion of the dialog box, click the checkbox next to Show advanced
features.
4. Click OK to save the changes.
Increase the thumbnail cache size for better performance
Memory Manager 2.0 Software creates small versions of your images called "thumbnails" that are displayed in the image library. You might notice that the first time you get images into the Memory Vault, that there is a slight delay the first time the thumbnails are displayed. Memory Manager maintains a cache of these thumbnails so that it doesn't need to recreate the thumbnails every time the application runs. When the cache reaches its maximum size, thumbnails that haven't been used recently are deleted to make room for new thumbnails.
You can allow Memory Manager to use more disk space for the thumbnails. Doing so will reduce the time Memory Manager spends recreating thumbnails of images and improve the performance of the Image Library, especially with large archives.
To increase the amount of space used, perform the following steps:
1. From the toolbar, select Help.
2. In the resulting menu, choose User Settings. The User Settings dialog box appears.
3. In the Thumbnails portion of the dialog box, increase the amount of space, which is shown in megabytes (MB). The maximum amount allowed is 1000, which is 1 gigabyte (GB) of space.
4. Click OK to save the changes.
Use the clipboard to gather images for printing, slideshows, emailing, exporting, or creating albums
The Memory Manager 2.0 clipboard, shown in the lower right corner of the application, lets you easily move images between different containers in the application.
If you would like to gather a group of images to print, email, export, show in a slideshow, or use to create an album, the clipboard might be the best way of doing this. Browse the Image Library for interesting images. Drag the images one at a time, or several at a time, to the Clipboard. Dragging and dropping images from a folder into the Clipboard will NOT remove the images from that folder.
Once you have gathered the images you want in the Clipboard, use the Clipboard's Share menu to Select All images in the Clipboard. Then use the Clipboard's Share menu a second time to print, email, export, show in a slideshow, or add to an album. Once you're done with these images, you can use the Clipboard's Clear menu to clear the Clipboard. This only removes the images from the Clipboard. It does NOT delete them from the Memory Vault.
Create a new blank vault instead of using the sample vault
By default, Memory Manager 2.0 Software opens the first time with the sample Memory Vault. The sample vault is useful for learning Memory Manager or demonstrating to others. However, you may want to create your own Memory Vault. To create your own Memory Vault, perform the following steps:
1. Go to the Memory Vault menu and select Close the current Memory Vault.
2. The Welcome screen will be displayed. Click Create a new Memory Vault and select a name and location for the new vault.
3. Click OK.
If you want to open the sample Memory Vault later, close the current vault and select it from the list of "Recently opened Memory Vaults" on the Welcome screen.
Create a separate Memory Vault for each family member with a digital camera
Memory Manager allows you to create multiple Memory Vaults. If more than one member of your household has a digital camera and wants to use Memory Manager, you might want to create a separate vault for each individual. This allows each one to organize his or her own pictures and create albums. You can use the export feature of Memory Manager to share pictures between vaults. Memory Manager 1.2 displays the current vault name in the title bar of the application.
To open another vault, simply choose Close the current Memory Vault from the Memory Vault menu, then select another vault to open. When the Memory Manager application starts, it will automatically open the vault that was last used.
Enable revision management
The default behavior of Memory Manager 2.0 is to keep the original image and one edited version of the image in the vault. Each time you make changes to an image, the edited version is updated.
You may want to keep more than just the most recently edited version of an image. For example, if you are working on an image to restore it over a period of time, you might want to keep copies of various steps along the way. Another example might be that you have an image for which you want both colour and sepia tone versions.
In these cases, you can enable the revision management feature of Memory Manager. This features allows you to keep multiple versions of each image in the Image Library. To enable revision management, complete the following steps:
1. From the toolbar, select Help.
2. In the resulting menu, choose User Settings. The User Settings dialog box appears.
3. To enable in-depth revision control, select Enable revision management in the General portion of the dialog box.
When saving images, you will now be able to overwrite originals, save new revisions, and create entirely new originals (branching). Details about using revision management can be found in the online help file.
Backup the Memory Vault to multiple media types
To best protect your memories over time, you might want to backup your Memory Vaults to more than one type of media. For example, if you burn CDs or DVDs for your normal backups, you might want to consider doing a complete backup of the vaults to an external drive on a periodic basis.
Create a default style for use with journalling boxes
The album feature of Memory Manager allows you to create journalling boxes using a wide range of fonts and colours. If you create a style that you would like to use as the default style, simply select a journalling box with that style, right-click on that box, select Styles and formatting... from the pop up menu, then select Make this style the default. All new journalling boxes will be created using this new default style.
How to email images with web-based e-mail providers
Memory Manager 2.0 can communicate directly with many e-mail applications. However, most web-based e-mail providers do not allow third-party applications such as Memory Manager to communicate directly with them. If you use one of these providers, then you cannot e-mail images directly using Memory Manager's "E-mail" feature. If you use one of these web-based email providers, then you can email images in the following manner:
1. Use Memory Manager's Export feature to export the images to a temporary folder. If the images you are e-mailing are for the recipient to view but not print, then you may want to use the Advanced Options in the Export dialog to create smaller versions of the image, reducing the size of the e-mail message.
2. Log onto your web-based e-mail provider and create a new message
3. Attach these files to the email message and send.
